Cloak of invisibility 2012-2013

(Somers Town, London)

‘Cloak of invisibility’ is a speculative design project, started 2012, following the announcement of the redevelopment of Euston station in London. That is estimated to open up approximately 2.5 million square feet of predictably generic mixed-use development while increasing the number of platforms for a new High Speed 2 (HS2) railway by 2020. The project is a counterproposal of sorts – in response to the overbearing sameness of the conventional master plan. It initiates inter- and trans-disciplinary processes to work with inhabitants of the allocated rout (residents, passerby’s and visitors). It proposes a walking rout with specific considerations for children and youngsters. The rout is an opportunity to explore the city without being explicitly visible. Somers Town was studied through executing particular strategies such as ritualistic walking, documentation of which has been gathered in a hand made book.
